Sheila J. Chaney, of Chesterton, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006 at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus, Valparaiso. She was 73.

She was born Oct. 14, 1933 in Asphalt, Ky., the daughter of Cecil and Edna (Hazlip) Lewis, both of whom preceded her in death.

On Jan. 6, 1952 in Hobart, she married Kenneth L. Chaney, who preceded her in death on May 21, 1994.

She is survived by three daughters, Debra Lynn Chaney of Ky., Devin Marie (Alexander) Mitchell of Chesterton and Dawn Sue (James) Mount of Chesterton; a sister, Sharon (Larry) Jackson of Prattville, Ala.; two brothers, Ed (Judy) Lewis of Chesterton and Danny (Jackie) Lewis of Brownsville, Ky.; three grandchildren, Bryce, Melusine and Loren Mitchell.

Sheila was retired in 1994 as a teacher’s aide for SELF School. She was a member of Vale Church of Christ.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 2 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Friday at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
