Leona R. Sievert, of Porter, passed away Friday, Oct. 27, 2006 at St. Mary Medical Center, Hobart. She was 89.

She was born Jan. 9, 1917 in Porter, the daughter of Theodore and Edith (Michaels) Shultz, both of whom preceded her in death.

On March 6, 1946 at the Porter United Methodist Church, she married William Sievert, who preceded her in death on April 12, 1993.

Leona is survived by two sisters, Ruth “Babe” Poparad and Jean Ellis, both of Porter and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Theodora LaHayne and Anna Johnson and a brother, Clarence L. Shultz.

Leona was a member of St. John’s United Church, Chesterton, life-member of V.F.W. Post #2511 Women’s Auxiliary, Porter and a former member of Women of the Moose, Chesterton.

Funeral services, Pastor Katie Lindberg officiating, were at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30, at White-Love Funeral Home, 525 S. 2nd St., Chesterton. The Women’s Auxiliary had a memorial service Sunday evening at the White-Love Funeral Home. Interment was at Chesterton Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to St. John’s United Church or to Horton Hospice Center, Valparaiso.
