Leona Freese, 89, died Saturday, October 21, 2006, at the VNA Hospice
Center, Valparaiso.
She was born Sept. 18, 1917, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of Edward H.
Edwards and Augusta E. Becker Edwards, both of whom preceded her in death.
She married Arnold Freese on Dec. 24, 1939 in Chicago, Ill. He preceded her
in death November 10, 1997.
She is survived by sons Donald (Shirley) Freese, of Chesterton; Thomas
(Doreen) Freese, of Los Lunas, N.M. and William (Kathryn) Freese, of
Fairfax, VA and a daughter, Kathryn Grant, of Bakersfield, Cal.
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Augsburg Lutheran Church, in Porter.
She was an area resident since 1977, coming here from Crystal Lake, Ill. She
is a former member of the Norwood Park Church and Bethian Lutheran Church,
Crystal Lake.
She is also a past president of the Lutheran Church Woman.
Services are set for 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the Augsburg Lutheran
Church, 100 N. Mineral Springs Rd., with Pastor Erik Bernth officiating.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, and Wednesday from 10
a.m. to the time of service, at the Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home, 517
Broadway, Chesterton.
Interment will be in Chesterton Cemetery.
Memorials may go to Augsburg Lutheran Church.
