Former Chesterton High School teacher, Robert H. Halford, “Bob,” of
Valparaiso, died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2005 at Porter Valparaiso Hospital Campus.
He was 75.
He was born Jan. 18, 1930 in Elwood, Ind. the son of C. Wayne and Alpha Opal
(Hiatt) Halford, both of whom preceded him in death.
On Aug. 13, 1951 in Frankfort, he married Sara Molden, who survives.
He is also survived by a daughter, Karla Halford of Westville; a brother,
Daniel C. Halford of Waynetown and eight nieces.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles M. and Edward W.
Halford.
Robert was an area resident for the last 33 years, coming here from Hamilton
County. He served as a captain in the Indiana National Guard and was a math
teacher at CHS for 30 years, where he also coached basketball and golf,
retiring in 1995. Prior to teaching at Chesterton, he taught at Walnut Grove
High School in Hamilton County near Cicero, where he was also the head
baseball and basketball coach. He was an active member of the National
Education Assoc. and Indiana State Teachers Assoc.
A graveside committal service will be at 10 a.m. CST Monday, Dec. 5 at
Normanda Cemetery in Normanda, Ind., Rev. Kurt Gremel officiating.
Visitation will be from 4:30-7 p.m. Wednesday at Moeller Funeral Home,
Valparaiso.
