Oliver Leroy Wise, of Monticello, formerly of Chesterton, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005 in Twin Lakes Village, Monticello, Ind. He was 78.

He was born Aug. 28, 1926 in Chesterton, the son of Everett A. and Waddie (Collins) Wise, both of whom preceded him in death.

On April 14, 1945 in Chesterton, he married Laura Stumpf, who survives in Monticello.

He is also survived by three sons, Jerry (Phyllis) Wise of Chesterton, Paul (Rose) Wise of Monticello and Dean (Nancy) Wise of Chesterton; two daughters, Lorna (Myron) Porter of Valparaiso and Loretta (Michael) Gobin of Monticello; a brother, Earl Wise of Portage; a sister, Doris Falls of Chesterton; 11 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Wise.

He was a life long area resident and retired in 1987 from Birkheimer (Teamsters Local 142) where he was employed as a warehouse foreman. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was a life member of the South Haven American Legion Post #502 and a former Porter Auxiliary policeman and worked part-time for Porter Police Department. He also was an avid lover and collector of John Deere tractors.

A funeral service, Gregg Nydegger officiating, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 11 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway. Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. to time of service Monday at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway.
