William F. Finley, of Chesterton, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004 at Porter
Valparaiso Hospital Campus. He was 75.
He was born July 22, 1929 in New York City, N.Y., the son of William and
Kathryn (Larkin) Finley, both of whom preceded him in death.
On Nov. 24, 1951 in Ridgewood, N.Y., he married Jeanne Cooney, who survives
in Chesterton.
He is also survived by two sons, Brian (Heidi) Finley of Porter and Kevin
Finley of Chesterton; a daughter, Kathy (Paul) Olson of Chesterton;
grandchildren Kylie Finley of Porter, Melissa (Justin) Giles of Ashkum,
Ill., Maureen Sheahen of Chicago, Emily Sheahen of Chesterton and Michael
Giles of Ashkum Ill.; step-grandchildren, Mark (Pam) Olson, Emily (Evan)
Murph; step great-grandchildren, Alexa, Madison, Hunter, Aidan and Makena.
An area resident since 1964, he was retired in 1991 after 34 years at
Bethlehem Steel.
He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was a member of Knights
of Columbus St. Gilbert’s Council 5929, the American Legion Porter Post 503,
St. Patrick Senior Club. He graduated from New York University and served in
the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952.
A Mass of Christian Burial, Fr. James Meade officiating, will be at 11 a.m.
Saturday, Nov. 13 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Rd.,
Chesterton. Interment will be at Chesterton Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. with Rosary Friday at Edmonds & Evans
Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton.
Memorials may be made to Gibauat Home for Boys of the Knights of Columbus.
