Barnaby Thomas Pape dies at 40

Barnaby Thomas Pape died unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004 at his home in San Diego, Calif. He was 40.

He was born Dec. 10, 1963 in Chicago, the son of Tom and Maura Pape, both of whom survive in Chesterton.

He is also survived by brothers, David of Valparaiso, Benjamin of Washington, D.C. and Jeremy (Jennifer) of Fishers; a sister, Rebecca of New York, N.Y.; two nieces, Lindsey and Emma and one nephew, Ethan.

Barnaby graduated from Chesterton High School in 1982, then served in the U.S. Navy from 1983 to 1988 as a petty officer first class sonar technician. He graduated cum laude in chemistry from Charleston College in May 1991. At his death, he was employed as a systems engineer for Scientific Applications International Corporation, a government contractor in San Diego where he had worked from 1996 to the present.

A memorial service, which included a color guard and chaplain from the U.S. Navy, was held in San Diego Friday, Dec. 3.
