With record enrollment, IUN revises parking

With record enrollment projected, Indiana University Northwest has announced new parking restrictions and traffic safety measures.

The campus parking lots are expected to reach maximum capacity on most days between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Students, faculty and staff are advised to use the new Park and Ride lot located at the new “Arts on Grant” location at Grant Street and 37th Avenue in the Village Shopping Center.

The IU Northwest Police Department will not provide off-campus police escorts to students who park at the Park and Ride lot who miss the last shuttle at 5:50 p.m. After that time, students and faculty are responsible for arranging their own transportation back to the Park and Ride lot.

Individuals using the Park and Ride lot can show their student ID to ride the free RedHawk Shuttle to and from campus. Shuttle departures and arrivals will occur every 10 to 14 minutes with two campus stops: the Moraine Student Center and the south entrance of the Library Conference Center.

The RedHawk Shuttle will run 8 a.m. until 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday, during the fall and spring semesters when classes are in session. There will be on-site security at the Park and Ride lot during its hours of operation, and the campus police will patrol the lot as part of their regular rounds.

For maps and more information about the RedHawk Shuttle, visit the web at http://www.iun.edu/~rshuttle/

IUN has added about 75 parking spaces to its campus capacity. Many of those additional spots are located in the lots east of Broadway. Additional handicapped parking has been added near the Moraine Student Center for those with disabilities.

All vehicles must properly display an IU Northwest parking permit. Individuals requesting a handicapped permit should contact Parking Services. The campus community is also reminded that Gleason Golf Course is not affiliated with the university, and its parking spaces are not available to the campus community. Those who park in the Gleason lot will be towed at their own expense.

The Indiana Department of Transportation has painted a new median on Broadway to indicate where pedestrians should cross Broadway. New LED pedestrian caution lights are also being installed.

To order an IU Northwest parking permit, please contact the Office of the Bursar at 980-6622, or visit them in Hawthorn Hall, located on the east side of campus along Broadway.
