United States Attorney David Capp has appointed David Hollar as the
Appellate Chief for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of
Indiana.
Hollar, 34, is a
Valparaiso native who received his undergraduate degree from Duke University
in 1997 and his law degree from the University of Chicago in 2001. After
graduation from law school, Hollar clerked for the U.S. Court of Appeals,
Seventh Circuit in Chicago. He then joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office for
the Northern District of Indiana as an Assistant United States Attorney from
2002-2007.
As an Assistant
U.S. Attorney, Hollar handled a variety of criminal cases, from drugs to
public corruption, and also did appellate work. Since 2007, Hollar has been
with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Criminal Division, Appellate Section,
where he has been handling significant government appeals in Circuit Court
of Appeals around the country.
“We are
extremely pleased that David has agreed to return to our office and work
with us in this important role as Appellate Chief,” Capp said. “David is a
brilliant lawyer with keen analytic skills. He has extensive experience in
this office and at the Department of Justice and we are fortunate to have
him back in northern Indiana.”
The U.S.
Attorney’s Office handles all appeals, civil and criminal, in the U.S. Court
of Appeals-Seventh Circuit sitting in Chicago. This responsibility entails
an extensive review of the record of proceedings in the district court,
preparation of the government’s appellate brief, and oral argument before
the Seventh Circuit. As Appellate Chief, Hollar will supervise the entire
appellate process.
Hollar is
expected to assume his new duties at the United States Attorney’s Office
later this month.
