Snowfall recorded in Chicago area

Back To Front Page

CHICAGO (AP) It's official. The first snowflakes have fallen in the Chicago area.

Meteorologists recorded the first flurries Tuesday at O'Hare International Airport. Snowflakes were also recorded at Midway Airport and some of the city's suburbs.

However, it isn't expected to last.

National Weather Service meteorologist Richard Castro tells the Chicago Sun-Times (http://bit.ly/161c2x9) that the ground is too warm for flakes to accumulate in most areas.

Weather officials had issue frost advisories for much of the northern half of state on Tuesday.

Freeze watches were in effect Tuesday for the southern tip of Illinois
