Westbound service was expected to resume at mid-morning today after a derailment in Michigan City forced the suspension of six South Shore commuter trains due to arrive in Chicago between 7:21 a.m. and 8:52 a.m., the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District said. No one was injured in the derailment.

Westbound service was expected to resume with Train 14, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 10:28 a.m., with a delay of approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

Eastbound service was expected to resume with Train 7, due to depart Chicago at 8:45 a.m. That train was around 30 minutes late.

Metra Electric was honoring South Shore ticketed passengers who rode Metra this morning.

NICTD apologized for the inconvenience.
