INDOT tells I-80/94 projects in NWI

Back To Front Page

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is reminding motorist in Northwest Indiana of ongoing and upcoming I-80/94 road projects which could impact travel plans.

In Porter County:

* A bridge deck replacement on I-80/94 over U.S. 20 and the CSX railroad right-of-way.

* A bridge deck replacement on I-80/94 over the old Bethlehem Steel Easement Road, 1.53 miles east of Ind. 249.

* A bridge deck replacement on I-80/94 over U.S. 20 at exit 22, approximately one mile east of Ind. 149.

* A bridge deck replacement on I-80/94 over the CSX right-of-way, 1.36 miles east of U.S. 20.

* A bridge deck replacement on I-80/94 over Little Calumet River, 1.54 miles west of Ind. 49.

* A bridge deck replacement on I-80/94 over the Amtrak right-of-way, 0.54 miles west of Ind. 49.

In Lake County:

* Resurfacing sections of I-80/94 between the Illinois state line and Ind. 912/Cline Ave.

* Resurfacing sections of I-80/94 from Clay Street to the Toll Road/I-80/90 interchange.

In LaPorte County:

* A bridge removal project over an abandoned railroad on I-80/94 five miles east of U.S. Highway 20.

All of these projects will involve lane restrictions and since the highway carries more than 155,000 vehicles each day traffic delays should be expected, especially during the heavy weekend travel times on Fridays and Sundays. INDOT urges you to plan ahead and allow extra travel time to safely get to your destination on time.

Near the locations of the bridge projects, electronic traveler information signs will be used to alert travelers to major delays and notify them of alternate routes to avoid the congestion.
