Westchester Township Museum exhibit on outdoor recreation to open Saturday

Back To Front Page

The Westchester Township History Museum invites the public to attend the opening reception for the newest special exhibit, Do The Dunes: Outdoor Adventures & Recreation, on Saturday, September 16, from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., at the Brown Mansion.

When the Native Americans and the first European settlers came to the dunes, they did not use them as an area for leisure and exercise. They used them for survival--for food, shelter, and transportation as well as business. Since then, people have been using the dunes for a different reason--fun.

This newest museum exhibit traces that transition and celebrates today’s access to and activity in the dunes.

See an old bicycle, skis, snowshoes, and more while learning how survival techniques of the past turned into the outdoor fun and games of today.

Enter your name in a drawing to win a GoPro! Westchester Public Library staff and their families are not eligible to win. The drawing will take place in November. The exhibit will be open through January 14, 2018.

Westchester Township History Museum is housed in the Brown Mansion, 700 W. Porter Ave., Chesterton. The museum is an educational and cultural service of Westchester Public Library and is open to the public free of charge Wednesday-Sunday from 1 - 5 p.m., or by appointment.

For more information please call the museum at (219) 983-9715.
