The Portage Township Trustee and the South Haven Fire Department are currently taking applications to create an eligibility list for positions that may come available in the next year. Applications will be accepted until April 30, 2010 at 3 pm. This list will expire on January 1, 2011. Applicants shall hold Indiana certification as a Paramedic at the time of application. Applicants shall be established within the St. Mary's Medical Center Mobile Intensive Care Program or present a letter of recommendation from his/her current system Medical Director and successfully pass all requirements to enter the St. Mary's Medical Center system within 45 days of hire. If not already certified, applicants shall also be required to obtain the Basic Firefighter certification as prescribed by Indiana Statute within 45 days of hire and Firefighter I/II certification within their probationary year. At 9:00 am on May 8, 2010, the department will conduct a physical agility testing. Applicants who successfully complete the agility test will then complete the written comprehensive and protocol test. The next step to the application process will be an oral interview with the Chief Officers of the department and the Portage Township Trustee. All applicants shall be subject to a background check. Any applicant offered a position with the department shall complete a physical and pass as a condition of hire. Applications can be picked up in person Monday-Friday 8 am - 3 pm at the South Haven Fire Department 398 W. 700 N. Valparaiso, Indiana 46385. A salary and benefits package will be disclosed to applicants at upon return of the application.
