INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana Gov. Mike Pence is touting a pair of wins on
two of his priorities from this year's legislative session: funding for
preschools and roads.
Pence began the
day Thursday by signing the preschool pilot program into law during a
ceremony at DayStar Childcare Ministry in Indianapolis. The plan would pay
for low-income children to attend preschools in five counties.
Pence is
traveling to Valparaiso to sign new road funding into law Thursday
afternoon. The state could see up to a $400 million boost to pay for
highway projects, but half the money will depend on how the state's
finances are doing at the end of the year.
The measures
represent a portion of what the governor originally sought. Fiscal
concerns led Senate Republicans to scale back the governor's requests.
