INDOT prepares to treat roads before wintry storm

Back To Front Page

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) The Indiana Department of Transportation is preparing for freezing rain, sleet, ice and snow to hit parts of the state Thursday night and Friday.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for much of southern and central Indiana. The weather service says a wintry storm is expected to bring a mix of accumulating sleet and snow.

INDOT says the weather could lead to difficult driving conditions. The department plans to use salt trucks to treat the roads just before pavement temperatures drop and the wintry mix begins to accumulate.

INDOT officials are advising motorists to avoid non-essential travel. They say ice will probably be the greatest threat to safety, saying even four-wheel-drive vehicles have little advantage on icy pavements
