INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana State Fair has opened its 17-day run with
a schedule including the annual high school marching band contest.
Gov. Mike Pence joined in a celebration Friday morning at the Glass Barn
at the fairgrounds on the north side of Indianapolis as thousands of
people arrived amid cool temperatures for an opening day of the fair.
Band Day has 45 marching bands from across the state being judge on music,
visual execution and general effect.
Fairgoers looking to save $5 can take advantage of the State Fair Park &
Ride service at the nearby Glendale Mall. It offers free shuttle service
each day from the mall's Rural Street lot to the fairgrounds.
The fair runs through Aug. 18.
