INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -
Indiana has reached a settlement with a northwestern Indiana propane
supplier that overcharged customers during last winter’s propane shortage.
Attorney General
Greg Zoeller said Wednesday that Ashland Propane Demotte LLC has agreed to
provide the affected customers with either a credit to their account or a
refund.
Those customers
will receive nearly $20,000 in restitution as part of the settlement with
the Jasper County company.
Zoeller says
Ashland Propane entered into contracts last fall with 93 Indiana residents
for propane at a set price of about $1.49 per gallon, but as propane prices
soared in January, the company told those customers it would not honor those
locked-in prices.
Zoeller says some
of the customers were charged up to $4.79 per gallon, or more than three
times the agreed-on price.
