An Attica, Ind., man died in a dirt-bike accident in Warren County on Saturday, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said.

The victim was identified as Royse L. Green, 38.

Green had just left a rural Independence residence on his Suzuki DRZ bike, at what two witnesses still at the residence said “sounded like a high rate of speed,” the DNR said. There was then “a sudden stop of the engine noise down the road” and on investigation the two found Green “lying on his back, on the road, still straddling the bike,” the DNR said.

The witnesses called 911 and began performing CPR but they were unable to revive Green, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

“It is believed through the preliminary investigation that Green possibly hit an animal with the dirt bike,” the DNR said, based on “damage to the front of the bike” and “possible animal hair, blood, and fecal matter located on the bike.”

An autopsy was scheduled for today.
