Members of the Porter County Convention, Recreation and Visitor Center
buried a time capsule Wednesday in ceremonies for the dedication of the new
Dorothy Buell Visitor Center located off SR 49, about one-half mile south of
the Indiana Dunes State Park entrance.
The capsule, to be opened in 30 years includes a letter that explains the
capsule was created in 2006 to celebrate the PCCRVC’s 20th anniversary.
Items included in the capsule are:
• Crinoids and a South Shore Poster accompanied with a letter from the town
of Beverly Shores.
• A Photo CD of the town of Burns Harbor.
• The Official Commemorative Booklet of the 30th annual Kouts’ Porkfest.
• The 2007-08 Residential directory of the Town of Ogden Dunes.
• A Photo CD of downtown Hebron and demolition of the High School
accompanied with a letter.
• A Data CD from the city of Portage with the Mayoral Welcome from city
website, comprehensive plan, Marquette plan, higher learning campus master
plan and north side master plan.
• A Sample brick from the Town of Porter’s Chicago Hydraulic Press Brick
Company accompanied with a letter.
• The Town of Dune Acres website pages from Oct. 24, 2006.
• The Town of Chesterton’s Tree City USA Arbor Day Foundation Flag and a
Copy of Chesterton Tribune from Friday, Nov. 10, 2006.
• An item from Valparaiso.
• Newspaper clippings featuring the Town of The Pines.
• A copy of fall 2006 through spring 2007 Singing Sands from the Indiana
Dunes National Lakeshore.
• A photo CD of Indiana Dunes State Park.
• A Porter County Travel Planner and 2006 Niche Guides.
• A map of Porter County from 2006.
• A list of all town and city officials for 2006.
The opener of the time capsule is charged with properly displaying them in a
permanent display either at the visitor center or a designated place within
the county.
