Preparations are
now underway for the Alliance for the Great Lakes’ annual Adopt-A-Beach
event in September.
The event is part of the International Coastal Cleanup, in which
participating volunteers remove debris from the beaches and record what they
find. In 2009, 5,682 volunteers removed 18,106 pounds of trash from beaches
and shorelines in Indiana, Michigan and Illinois.
This year’s event will be from 9 a.m. to noon on Sept. 25.
This year the Alliance will also coordinate events in Wisconsin and partner
with the Ohio Lake Erie Commission as part of its annual Coastweeks event.
To register for events in Indiana, see

There are many designated locations that welcome volunteers. When volunteers
arrive at the event, they will receive instructions and supplies to
participate. Find a location by registering.
Participants can also become team leaders.
The Alliance will provide team leaders with instructions about how to market
and carry out an event. The Alliance will also provide all the necessary
supplies to conduct an event.
