Three contested primary races so far after first day of filing

Twenty-four hours after candidate filing began, three contested primary races have already emerged.

Two Republicans are running for nomination as Porter County Coroner: Thomas Ampeliotis and Cyndi Dykes.

Two Democrats are also running for nomination for Coroner: Dale Bagnall and Randy Wilkening.

Meanwhile, two Republicans are running for nomination for the 3rd District seat on the Porter County Council currently held by fellow Republican Karen Conover: Walter A. Dougherty and Mark “Coach” Hoffman.

Other county filings:

* Former County Council member in an at-large seat, Democrat Bob Poparad, has filed for the 1st District seat currently held by Republican Andy Bozak.

* Incumbent County Council Member Jeremy Rivas, D-2nd, has filed for re-election to his seat.

* Incumbent Auditor and Democrat Vicki Urbanik has also filed for re-election.

* Incumbent Assessor Jon Snyder, a Republican, has filed for re-election.

* Incumbent Coroner and Republican Chuck Harris has filed for Recorder, as has Democrat Lily M. Schaefer.

* Incumbent County Council Member Mike Jessen, D-4th, has filed for re-election.

Legislative filings:

* U.S. House, 1st District: Incumbent and Democrat U.S. Rep. Pete Visclosky has filed for re-election. Republican John Meyer has filed for his party’s nomination as well.

* Indiana Senate, 4th District: Incumbent and Democrat State Sen. Karen Tallian, Portage, has filed for re-election.

* Indiana House, 4th District: Incumbent and Republican Ed Soliday, Valparaiso, has filed for re-election.

* Indiana House, 10th District: Incumbent and Democrat Charles “Chuck” Moseley, Portage, has filed for re-election.
