U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly, D-Ind., visited the United Steelworkers Local 6787 union hall on Tuesday, as part of his six-day “Hoosier Highways” re-election tour.

Donnelly participated in a roundtable discussion at Local 6787 on his End Outsourcing Act, legislation which is intended to reward companies that retain jobs in the U.S.

Donnelly and Local 6787 officials also talked about efforts to protect U.S. exports from trade manipulations.

Later on Tuesday, Donnelly toured the Gary/Chicago international Airport with Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson.

“I’m running for re-election because we need more Hoosier common sense in Washington,” Donnelly said in a statement released late on Tuesday. “It’s been my honor to be Indiana’s hired help in the Senate, and I’m excited to continue to work hard and reach across the aisle to deliver results for Hoosiers. This RV tour is an opportunity for me to travel across our state to listen to Hoosiers’ concerns and discuss how I can continue to fight for them. The Senate only succeeds when we take Indiana’s ideas to Washington, not the other way around.”

Donnelly has taken active interests, during his time in the Senate, in veterans health, the opioid crisis, and corporate outsourcing.
