Seven Chesterton High
School seniors are among the nation’s 16,000 Semifinalists announced in the
2016 National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) competition. These
students have completed the first step in the competition for some 7,400
Merit Scholarships, worth more than $32 million, to be offered next spring.
This year, CHS was one of the top ten public schools with the highest number
of National Merit Semifinalists.
Based on selection index
scores on the 2014 PSAT/NMSQT, the CHS students cited in the 61st annual
competition are Christine Craig, Keely Ellman, Jared Gallina, Fredric Owens,
Joel Peterson, Nathan Poczekay and Hunter Warren.
Craig is the daughter of
Christopher and Vickie Craig of Valparaiso. She is undecided on her college
and field of study.
Ellman is the daughter of
Courtney and Mathew Ellman of Valparaiso. She plans to attend the University
of Alabama for Secondary Education-English.
Gallina is the son of
Kathleen Gallina of Valparaiso. He plans to study Aeronautical Engineering.
Owens is the son of Fred
and Laura Owens of Chesterton. He plans to study Engineering.
Peterson is the son of
David and Merrie Peterson of Chesterton. He plans to study Engineering.
Poczekay, is the son of Tom
and Jamie Poczekay of Chesterton. He plans to study Aeronautical
Engineering.
Warren, is the son of
Maureen and Seth Warren of Chesterton. He plans to study Business
Administration/Political Science.
