Five win at state Business Professionals contest for CHS

Five Chesterton High School Business Professionals of America (BPA) students have won at the statewide contest hosted March 7-9 at the Marriott Downtown in Indianapolis. CHS had 34 BPA students attending after advancing from the District Leadership Conference in January.

Junior Ryan Tarnowski won first place in the Computerized Accounting event. Senior Kaci Watson placed third and Junior Ryan Thomalla placed eighth in the same event.

Freshman Rachel McCrum won sixth place in the Prepared Speech event and Sophomore Jon Vincent won a second place award in Management, Marketing, and Human Resources and an eighth place award in the Parliamentary Procedures event.

Statewide there were approximately 2,000 students and advisors at this three day competition. Besides competing in their assigned business events, students attended three general session meetings, listened to motivational keynote speaker Grant Baldwin, attended workshops on Sports Marketing and Finance, and elected the new student state officers for next school year.

Other CHS students attending with BPA Advisor Rebecca Gierke were Max Carstens, Helena Correa, Erin DeVaney, Taylor Doré, Isabelle Endsley, Tyler Fabbri, Brendan Freeze, Olivia Gordon, Alex Hartney, Tyler Hedrick, Randi Hickman, Matt Jones, Bryce Klawson, Elizabeth Koch, Allison Lara, Michael Leopold, Hayley Miller, Jesse Mudd, Brittany Nay, Nicole Nowak, Nathaniel Oddi, Britta Ringas, Amanda Robey, Lauren Sergent, Sabena Sriplo, David Stibgen, Shelbie Sullivan, Natalie Veselica and Haley Virden.

All students at Chesterton High School are invited to join this professional academic club. Callouts for membership are held every fall.
