The Discovery Charter School will hold its annual admissions lottery this
Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Because there
are more applicants than spots, the charter school holds a random lottery
before each new school year to determine which applicants will be accepted
as students.
Applications for
the lottery were due on Wednesday, February 20.
Siblings of
existing students are first identified and placed and then the remaining
spots are picked. An official from the Porter Police Department will draw
names from a clear container.
Once spots are
filled, the lottery will also determine which applicants are to be put on
the waitlist.
Following the
lottery will be a regular Discover Charter School Board of Directors
meeting.
On the agenda,
the board will look at the proposed dates for the 2013-2014 school year
calendar and approval of the target enrollment.
Next the board
will discuss under new business Camp Invention, facilities grant and
schedule a date and time for the Spring Coffee Chat.
Also, the
Development Plan Committee’s goals will be discussed.
In old business,
the board will hear an update from the Website Committee, discuss the
approval of the grant and fundraising process policy, and revisit
discussions regarding maintenance.
The board will
be given a report by Director Ernesto Martinez.
The Parents
Action Committee will give an update. The meeting will also have a time for
public comment.
The board will
meet at the Discovery Charter School, 800 Canonie Drive in Porter.
