The speech team placed fourth at the Concord Invitational this past weekend.
Twelve schools and more than 150 students competed in the all varsity
tournament. The team was led by junior Mikaela Meyer who was the tournament
champion in declamation, as well as tying for sixth place in original
oratory.
Senior Jennifer Kattalia finished in third place in original oratory and
senior Sharon Coleman tied for sixth with Meyer. Senior Kiera Quealy took
second place in original performance, and drama contestants, senior Aliyah
Caraballo and junior Danny Vincent, placed fourth and sixth, respectively.
Junior Jami Ritchea placed fourth in humor.
In prose freshman Ellen Winski, competing in her first varsity tournament,
finished in sixth place.
"We were pleased with how well the kids did despite our small entry, and we
were particularly pleased with strong finish by Ellen in prose," said coach
Kirsten Reed.
Culver Academies won the tournament, followed by Plymouth in second place.
Dekalb placed third, followed by Chesterton, with Logansport placing fifth.
Coaches Reed and Eric Schaefer, along with former student Jessica Cleary and
parents Rick Kidder and Jim Vincent, helped with judging. The team's next
tournament will be next weekend at Plymouth.
