The South Shore
Brass Band, a professional musical organization and long-time performing
ensemble in the Duneland region, is presenting a Spring Concert on Sunday,
April 26, at 3 p.m. in the Chesterton Middle School Auditorium. This
performance, aligning with the group’s educational outreach goals, will
feature many members of the Chesterton High School Band.
“Bringing live,
professional music to our schools is as important as ever,” said CMS Band
Director Vince Arizzi.
“In a time when
students can hear anything they want on YouTube, the energy and excitement
of live music is forgotten, I think.” Arizzi performs in the band, as does
Liberty Intermediate School music teacher Julie Plant.
The rest of the
30-piece brass band is composed of current and retired music teachers, as
well as other professional musicians from northwest Indiana.
For the past
decade, the South Shore Brass Band has seen performing at the gazebo in
downtown Chesterton as well as the Coffee Creek Amphitheater.
The CHS students
involved are Amera Abuhakmeh, Allison Henry, Nathan Poczekay, Christopher
Sexton, Payton Stobbe, Cameron Tassler, Madison Comfort, Violet Needham,
Spencer Ostrega, Nolan Poczekay, James Bonnema, III, Anthony Langley, Andrew
Figg, Harley Wines, Riley Franklin, Jonathan Jones and Kylie Sabol.
The music selected
for the concert is traditional British-style brass band literature, such as
classical transcriptions, exciting marches, and will include some newer
music that should appeal to a wide audience range.
The concert will
begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday in the newly renovated CMS Auditorium.
Tickets are $12 for
adults, $10 for seniors and $6 for students.
