In what may be a preview of the State Debate Tournament, Chesterton narrowly won the sweepstakes championship holding off strong competition from defending state champion West Lafayette and perennial contender Munster. Final standings revealed Chesterton with 64 sweepstakes points, West Lafayette with 60, and Munster tied also with 60 points. Fort Wayne Northop came in fourth with 29 and Valparaiso took fifth with 24.

Policy Debate led the charge with an excellent showing. Greg Gentry and Alex Steciuch went 3-1 for second place in varsity; Rachel Marvin and Jessica Povlinski took third; and Chasity Mottinger and Kailey Paglia took fourth. In the novice division, Christian Parroco and Warren Fasone took second and Kris Jirtle and Sarah Fischer took sixth.

Public Forum Debate had a champion. In the varsity division, second year debaters Syed Shah and Tyler Fabbri went 4-0 and were the tournament champions.

Luke Morgan and Kira Geairn went 3-1 and took fourth. In the novice division, Liz Koch and Raine Fox took seventh.

Congressional Debate saw a repeat champion. For the second weekend in a row, Aris Ringas was the varsity champion. Also repeating her performance for the second weekend in a row, Michelle Wyatt tied for first in the novice division but was awarded second on a tie breaker.

In Lincoln-Douglas Debate Marie Queen took fifth and Dan Leopold took seventh.

“This was excellent competition for this early in the season. I have a feeling these three schools will be battling it out all year.” Coach Jim Cavallo
