WWII and Korean War veterans sought for Honor Flight to DC to visit memorials

Chesterton American Legion Post 170 is seeking WWII and Korean War veterans interested in the Honor Flight Chicago, which honors those who served and provides a no-cost opportunity--funded by private donations--to visit the memorials in Washington, D.C.

Applications are available by contacting Trina Hess at (219) 926-1443.

Veterans must complete the application and a medical form, after which the Honor Flight team works to issue invitations three to four weeks before the flight date. Scheduled flights are on Wednesdays: April 9, May 7, June 4, July 2, and July 30. Additional dates will be found on www.honorflightchicago.org

The only requirement to pass through security is a valid government-issued state identification (driverís license, state ID, passport). It is recommended that you bring two daysí worth of medications with you.

Itinerary: arrive at Midway Airport at 8 p.m.; travel through Washington, D.C. on luxury buses; participate in a short ceremony at the memorial honoring the fallen.

Wheelchairs will be available for all veterans and oxygen with a doctorís prescription. Trained support personnel will also be on hand for every veteran on the flight.
