Local 6787 has rallied to assist the victims of this fall’s hurricanes in
Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico, and those of the earthquake in Mexico.
Responding
generously to Local 6787 President Pete Trinidad Sr.’s call for help was the
membership, who contributed hundreds of boxes and bags of desperately needed
household staples, bottled water, and foodstuffs.
Members also
responded with open wallets, ponying up $5,000 in hard cash.
On Tuesday,
Trinidad presented the $5,000 check to Porter County Salvation Army Director
John Welch, to be used to aid those in the holiday season who’ve lost so
much. Trinidad and other officers then helped to load the relief items into
a Salvation Army van for transport.
“Local 6787 wanted
the families to know we care and that we wanted to help make a difference,”
Local Recording Secretary Jack Tipold told the Chesterton Tribune.
“And the membership
responded to the disaster relief with open hearts.
The victims of the
hurricanes and earthquake have not been forgotten.”
