Statewide: 1,659 new cases, 71 more deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) was reporting this morning 1,659 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend, to bring total confirmed cases in the state to 28,255, up from 26,655 on Friday, an increase of 6.2 percent over the last 72 hours.

ISDH reported 656 new cases on Saturday, 511 on Sunday, and 492 today.

ISDH was also reporting 71 additional deaths over the weekend. ISDH reported 46 new deaths on Saturday, 11 on Sunday, and 14 today.

The number of probable COVID-19 deaths to date: 144. Probable deaths are those for which x-ray, scans, and clinical symptoms all point to COVID-19 but for which no positive test is on record.

Total confirmed and probable COVID-19 deaths Indiana: 1,765 (1,691 on Friday).

Nursing home cases and deaths to date: 3,625 cases and 734 deaths (3,033 cases and 584 deaths on Friday). Number of nursing home facilities in the state with at least one case of COVID-19: 212 (197 on Friday). Number with at least one death: 129 (121 on Friday).

183,912 tests have been reported to date to ISDH, up from 165,448 on Friday, an increase of 11.2 percent over the last 72 hours, with a positive rate of 15.4 percent. Tests are being conducted by ISDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and private laboratories.

Tests in Porter County: 3,146 (2,899 on Friday). In Lake County: 16,632 (15,136). In LaPorte County: 2,755 (2,429).

If low positive rates are an indication of the extent of COVID-19 testing in a county, then Porter County's 12.9 percent positive rate compares favorably to Lake's (20.1 percent), LaPorte's (13.1), and the state's (15.4 percent).

Marion County has the most reported cases, 8,406 (7,7995 on Friday); and the most deaths, 480 (465). Lake County has reported 2,886 cases (2,747) and 140 deaths (136), the second highest in the state in both categories. LaPorte County has reported 360 cases and 16 deaths (352 and 14).
