State sets record with 1,832 new cases

The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) was reporting this morning a one-day record of new COVID-19 cases: 1,832 over the last 24 hours (1,488 new cases on Thursday), to bring the total so far to 131,493, up from 129,677 on Thursday.

The previous one-day record was 1,499, set on Sept. 18.

ISDH was also reporting 19 additional COVID-19 deaths over the last 24 hours (19 additional deaths on Thursday), to bring the total to date to 3,776, up from 3,757 on Thursday.

In addition, ISDH was reporting today 1,187 hospitalizations (1,110 hospitalizations on Thursday): the highest number of hospitalizations in nearly five months, when on May 21 ISDH reported 1,203 hospitalizations.

Marion County was reporting today 22,867 cases (22,689 on Thursday) and 771 deaths (771), the most in the state in both categories. Lake County was reporting 11,578 cases (11,419) and 335 deaths (335), the second most in the state in both categories. LaPorte County was reporting 1,767 cases (1,733) and 47 deaths (47).

The total COVID-19 death count includes both confirmed and presumptive deaths to date. Presumptive deaths are those for which x-ray, scans, and clinical symptoms all point to COVID-19 but for which no positive test is on record. A total of 227 presumptive deaths was reported today, unchanged from Thursday.

Meanwhile, ISDH was reporting today 1,992 total student cases statewide, 406 total teacher cases, and 447 total staff cases (447 total), all unchanged from Thursday.

There were 811 schools with no reported cases; 944 schools with one or more cases; and 1,067 schools have not reported, also all unchanged from Thursday.
