State: New C19 cases spike, deaths near 2000

The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) was reporting this morning 646 new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours (370 new cases on Wednesday), to bring total confirmed cases in the state to 33,068, up from 32,437 on Wednesday, an increase of 2.0 percent.

ISDH was also reporting 37 additional deaths over the last 24 hours (21 additional deaths on Wednesday), to bring the total in the state so far to 1,907, up from 1,871 on Wednesday, an increase of 2.0 percent.

The number of probable COVID-19 deaths to date: 161 (159 on Wednesday). Probable deaths are those for which x-ray, scans, and clinical symptoms all point to COVID-19 but for which no positive test is on record. Total confirmed and probable COVID-19 deaths in Indiana: 2,068.

Nursing home cases and deaths to date: 4,086 cases and 876 deaths (unchanged from Wednesday). Number of nursing home facilities in the state with at least one case of COVID-19: 224. Number of nursing homes in the state with at least one COVID-19 death: 142.

242,287 tests have been reported to date to ISDH, up from 235,333 on Wednesday, an increase of 3 percent over the last 24 hours, with a positive rate of 13.6 percent. Tests are being conducted by ISDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and private laboratories.

Tests in Porter County: 4,394 (4,293 on Wednesday). In Lake County: 22,322 (21,474). In LaPorte County: 3,746 (3,653).

Marion County has the most reported cases, 9,524 (9,371); and the most deaths, 558 (546). Lake County has reported 3,494 cases (3,347) and 175 deaths (170), the second highest in the state in both categories. LaPorte County has reported 420 cases and 22 deaths (415 and 22).
