Volunteer
registration for the United Way Day of Caring will be closing at the end of
the day Friday, August 15. To join this regional volunteer event as a team
or an individual, visit the United Way Regional Volunteer Center website at
www.nwivolunteer.org
for a listing of projects.
United Way Day of
Caring is Northwest Indiana's largest celebration of volunteerism, bringing
together local businesses, places of worship, and civic organizations to
make an impact in the non-profit community. The annual United Way Day of
Caring will take place Friday, August 22, with a variety of projects held in
both Lake and Porter Counties. Projects range from fishing with day camp
kids to painting, hosting parties for seniors to building ramps.
This year
volunteers will be receiving a free, classic Live United t-shirt to wear
while volunteering.
"It makes a visual
impact, showing our community living united and volunteering united. You see
the volunteers at work when you drive around town," Assistant Director
Mackenna Dickt said.
Volunteers begin
their day with a free, pep-rally style breakfast, to get motivated for a day
of good deeds. Porter County volunteers will be hosted at Strongbow Inn in
Valparaiso and Lake County volunteers will be hosted at Avalon Manor in
Merrillville.
Over 2,000
volunteers made a difference through the United Way Day of Caring in 2013.
Your company, organization, or group can join this year's efforts in three
easy steps: form a team, visit
www.nwivolunteer.org,
and choose a project no later than Friday, August 15.
