Rock for a Cure NWI will launch on Saturday, March 25 at 7 p.m. with an evening of rock music and a silent auction at Moose Lodge 1623, 602 Broadway in Chesterton.

Founded in January of this year, the goal of Rock for a Cure NWI is to raise funds for cancer research and to assist Northwest Indiana residents who have been financially devastated by cancer. Conceived by Valparaiso resident Jesse Klemz and Chesterton residents Mark Stewart and Mary Paschen, the organization will present a series of special events and produce one major concert focused on rock music annually. The stated mission of the organization is: “Bringing hope, love and assistance to Northwest Indiana Cancer fighters.”

Comic Otis Jay Boggs is master of ceremonies for this first time event which features the band Nine Point Six and includes a special performance by Monkeys Unkle. Nine Point Six is known for its classic heavy metal tunes and Monkeys Unkle performs classic rock hits from the 80s and 90s.

The Rock for a Cure NWI Silent Auction offers items including full service oil changes from Jiffy Lube in Chesterton, $50 Gift Certificate from Shorebird Cafe (formerly Peggy Sue’s Diner) and Gourmet Cupcakes provided by Cupcakes by Ali of Elkhart. The Spotlight Item of the auction is a Badaax SS106S electric guitar donated by Midwest Musicians Co-Op in Elkhart. Written bids will be taken throughout the evening with the winning bidders announced at 11 p.m.
