Recycle all of those plastic bags at the household hazardous waste collection from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Porter County Expo Center and Fairgrounds, 215 E. Division Road in Valparaiso.

Plastic bag recycling drop-offs have been suspended at many locations in Porter County during the pandemic, but clean, dry, and empty plastic bags will be accepted at Saturday’s event.

The Recycling and Waste Reduction District will also be accepting used tires on Saturday. Residents may bring up to four tires under 20 inches for free (after the first four, there will be a charge of $3 per tire under 20 inches). Tires measuring 20 to 25 inches will cost $5 each. Tires over 25 inches will cost $15 each.

Household hazardous wastes are unwanted products containing corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients requiring special care upon disposal. Acceptable materials on Saturday include household cleaners, pesticides, kerosene, gasoline, oil-based paints, antifreeze, solvents, and many more.

Electronics and latex paint will not be accepted on Saturday, however.

Residents are advised to use caution at the event and to continue to observe social-distancing practices.
