Porter County reports one new death, 27 new C19 cases over the weekend

The Porter County Health Department was reporting this morning another COVID-19 death, to bring the total so far to 25.

The Health Department reported the death on Saturday. The victim was a Center Township resident in the 90-and-over age group residing in a long-term care facility.

The Health Department was also reporting 27 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, to bring the total to 550, up from 523 on Friday, an increase of 5.2 percent over the last 72 hours.

Eighteen new cases were reported on Saturday; four on Sunday; and five today.

Fourteen are currently hospitalized, unchanged from Friday; while 338 have recovered, also unchanged from Friday.

Deaths

To date 25 Porter County residents have died from COVID-19: four Westchester Township residents; one Liberty Township resident; 12 Portage Township residents; and eight Center Township residents. Deaths by demographic: six 50-59; one 60-69; four 70-79; eight 80-89; and six 90-and-over. Twelve men have died and 13 women.

Total active cases in Porter County, after subtracting recoveries and deaths: 187, compared to 161 on Friday, an increase of 16.1 percent over the last 72 hours.

Long-term Care Facilities

To date, 92 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Porter County’s long-term care facilities, up from 91 on Friday.

Sixteen have died, up from 15 on Friday.

Seven are currently hospitalized and two have recovered, unchanged from Friday.

Testing

Total COVID-19 tests conducted in Porter County as of Sunday, according to the Indiana State Department of Health: 4,761, up from 4,394 on Friday, an increase of 8.4 percent over the previous 48 hours.

Duneland Cases by Township

-- Westchester: 35 cases, four deaths, no hospitalizations, 27 recoveries (unchanged from Friday). Four active cases.

-- Liberty: 25 cases, one death, two hospitalizations, 17 recoveries (unchanged from Friday). Seven active cases.

-- Jackson: two cases, no hospitalizations, one recovery (unchanged from Friday). One active case.

-- Pine: three cases, three recoveries. No active cases.

Other hard hit townships:

-- Portage Township: 225 cases (211 on Friday), 12 deaths (12), two hospitalizations (three), and 134 recoveries (134).

-- Center: 147 cases (137 on Friday), eight deaths (seven), eight hospitalizations (eight), and 64 recoveries (64).

-- Washington: 49 cases, no hospitalizations, and 47 recoveries (unchanged from Friday). These 49 cases include 40 confirmed at the Porter County Jail.

-- Union: 22 cases, one hospitalization, and 18 recoveries (unchanged from Friday).
