Porter County reports 7 day uptick in new C19 cases

The Porter County Health Department reported the second consecutive seven-day uptick in new COVID-19 cases for the week ending Saturday, Sept. 26: 124, an increase of five over the 119 cases reported for the preceding week, ending Saturday, Sept. 19.

Those 119 new cases, in turn, represented a 27-percent spike over the 94 cases reported for the week ending Saturday, Sept. 12.

Meanwhile, the Health Department was reporting this morning 64 new COVID-19 cases over the last 72 hours (32 new cases on Friday), to bring the total so far to 2,209, up from 2,145 on Friday.

The Health Department reported 20 new cases on Saturday; 20 on Sunday; and 24 cases today.

Of those 64 new cases, 43--or 67 percent--were diagnosed in the younger demographics: seven in the 0-19 (327 total); 12 in the 20-29 (437 total); 12 in the 30-39 (336 total); and 12 in the 40-49 (332 total).

To date, 327 cases have been diagnosed in children or teens, or 14.8 percent of all cases (14.9 percent on Friday). On July 7, only 39 children or teens had been diagnosed of the 765 total cases at the time: or 5.1 percent.

Meanwhile, five patients are currently hospitalized, down from seven on Friday. Total active cases in Porter County, after subtracting 2,011 total recoveries and 49 total deaths: 149, down from 250 on Friday.

A total of 119 COVID-19 cases has been reported in Porter County long-term care facilities, unchanged from Friday. Of those 119, 31 have died, 88 have recovered, and none is currently hospitalized. As of today, there were no active cases in the county's long-term care facilities, compared to three on Friday.

Duneland cases by township:

-- Westchester: 254 cases (244 on Friday). Nineteen active cases.

-- Liberty: 137 cases (125 on Friday). Nineteen active cases.

-- Jackson: 44 cases (42 on Friday). Nine active cases.

-- Pine: 11 cases (unchanged from Friday). No active cases.

State reports almost 3,000 cases in 72 hours

The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) was reporting this morning 2,955 new COVID-19 cases over the last 72 hours (1,195 new cases on Friday), to bring the total so far to 118,322, up from 115,407 on Friday.

ISDH reported 1,155 new cases on Saturday; 921 on Sunday; and 879 today.

ISDH was also reporting 15 additional COVID-19 deaths over the last 24 hours (18 additional deaths on Friday), to bring the total to date to 3,602, up from 3,577 on Friday.

ISDH reported 11 deaths on Saturday; three on Sunday; and 11 today.

Marion County was reporting today 21,502 cases (21,196 on Friday) and 767 deaths (765), the most in the state in both categories. Lake County was reporting 10,688 cases (10,493) and 323 deaths (323), the second most in the state in both categories. LaPorte County was reporting 1,491 cases (1,423) and 41 deaths (40).
