Porter County reports 13 new virus cases

The Porter County Health Department was reporting this morning 13 new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours (14 new cases on Monday), to bring the total so far to 1,742, up from 1,729 on Monday.

Of those 13 new cases, seven--or 54 percent--were diagnosed among the younger demographics: two in the 0-19 (24 total); three in the 20-29 (348 total); and two in the 30-39 (263); Total in the 40-49: 269.

Nine patients are currently hospitalized, up from eight on Monday. Total active cases in Porter County: 138, up from 125 on Monday.

The Health Department reported no additional deaths today. To date 43 Porter County residents have succumbed to COVID-19.

A total of 110 cases have been reported so far in long-term care facilities in Porter County, unchanged from Monday. Two of those patients are currently hospitalized, 74 have recovered, and 27 have died, also unchanged from Monday.

To date, 241 cases have been diagnosed in children or teens, or 13.8 percent of all cases (13.8 percent on Monday). On July 7, only 39 children or teens had been diagnosed of the 765 total cases at the time: or 5.1 percent.

Duneland cases by township:

-- Westchester: 184 cases (182 on Monday). Twenty-four active cases.

-- Liberty: 87 cases (unchanged from Monday). Three active cases.

-- Jackson: 24 cases (unchanged from Monday). Four active cases.

-- Pine: 11 cases (unchanged from Monday). One active case.

Other townships:

-- Portage: 623 cases (620 on Monday). Thirty-four active cases.

-- Center: 488 cases (484 on Monday). Forty-active cases. Center Township’s total includes Valparaiso University students.

-- Washington: 81 cases (79 on Monday). Three active cases. Washington Township’s total includes Porter County Jail inmates.

-- Union: 95 cases (93 on Monday). Thirteen active cases.

Statewide: 721 new cases, 16 more deaths

The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) was reporting this morning 721 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours (897 new cases on Monday), to bring the total so far to 94,891, up from 94,196 on Monday.

ISDH was also reporting 16 additional COVID-19 deaths over the last 24 hours (five additional deaths on Monday), to bring the total to date to 3,323, up from 3,307 on Monday.

Marion County has reported the most cases of any county in the state, 18,567 (18,466 on Monday); and the most deaths, 747 (747). Lake County has reported 9.173 cases (9,143) and 297 deaths (296), the second highest in the state in both categories. LaPorte County has reported 1,189 cases and 31 deaths (1,185 and 31).

The total COVID-19 death count includes both confirmed and presumptive deaths to date. Presumptive deaths are those for whichx-ray, scans, and clinicalsymptoms all point to COVID-19 but for which no positive test is on record.A total of 219 presumptive deaths was reported today, unchanged from Monday.
