Porter County Parks to host variety of programs in April

The Porter County Parks and Recreation Department lists its activities and programs available to residents for their wellness and enjoyment throughout this month. Contact the parks department at (219)-465-3586.

*  Writing Non-fiction for Publication, Sundays April 6 – May 18 from 4:30-6 p.m. at Sunset Hill Farm County Park. Two local journalists will help guide participants on the techniques, methods and forms of writing non-fiction. Subjects include nature writing, memoirs, event coverage, profiles, reviews, and histories. Students will try their hand at different forms of writing and the instructors will work with the students to find potential places for the work to be published. Must be 18 years or older. There will be no class on Sunday, April 20 (Easter). Cost for the program is $50.

*  Restorative Retreat, Sunday, April 6 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Join an instructor at Brincka Cross Gardens for a day long restorative retreat that will focus on both the mind and body through the use of yoga and meditation. The day will include a light, healthy lunch. Cost is $55.

*  Acrylic Painting at South Haven Public Library, Monday, April 7 from 6-8 p.m. All skill levels are welcome to attend this art class under the guidance of an experienced instructor. A painting surface will be provided. Cost is $10.

*  Acrylic Painting at Hebron Public Library, Tuesday, April 15 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. All skill levels are welcome to attend this art class under the guidance of an experienced instructor. A painting surface will be provided. Cost is $10.

*  Spanish Made Fun – The World, on Tuesdays Apr.15-June 3 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Sunset Hill Farm County Park. Students in grades 2 through 6 will have fun learning about the Spanish language and culture. Class topics are all about the world – animals, weather, nature and basic conversation will be introduced using games, songs, books and interactive activities. Cost is $75.

*  Freezing Foods, Wednesday, April 16 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at Sunset Hill Farm County Park. An Educator from Purdue Extension will provide tips and techniques for freezing foods – from fresh produce to leftovers. This is a free program.

*  Senior Hike Sponsored by Porter Regional Hospital Senior Circle, Wednesday, April 16 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at Sunset Hill Farm County Park. The topic of this monthís hike is Migrating Majesticís. Many migrating birds are starting to pass through Northwest Indiana and you never know what you might see at Sunset Hill. This is a free program.
