The Porter County
Health Department was reporting this morning 24 new cases of COVID-19 over
the last 24 hours (four new cases on Wednesday), to bring the total so far
to 1,250, up from 1,226.
Of those new cases,
18--or 75 percent--were diagnosed among the younger demographics: six in the
0-19 (150 total); six in the 20-29 (258 total), three in the 30-39 (189
total), and three in the 40-49 (205 total).
To date, COVID-19
has been diagnosed in 150 children or teens in Porter County, or 12 percent
of all cases (11.7 percent of all cases on Wednesday). When the
Chesterton Tribune first began tracking COVID-19 cases in the younger
demographics, on June 30, the 0-19 group accounted for 37 of the 715 total
cases at the time, or 5.2 percent.

from Wednesday. The Health Department announced late in July that it will be
updating recoveries only once a week. Total active cases right now In Porter
County: 199, up from 175 on Wednesday.

succumbed to COVID-19. As the Chesterton Tribune has been reporting,
the surge in COVID-19 cases over the last five weeks has not been
accompanied by any significant increase in hospitalizations or deaths.
To date, 101 cases
of COVID-19 have been reported in Porter County's long-term care facilities,
27 have died, no one is currently hospitalized, and 74 have recovered, all
unchanged from Wednesday. The Health Department has not reported a new
COVID-19 case in a long-term facility here since June 30.
