Months long Indiana 49 lane closures start Monday

Back To Front Page

The Indiana Department of Transportation is announcing lane closures for Ind. 49 between I-94 and Indian Boundary Road, starting Monday, Aug. 31.

Ind. 49 will be reduced to one lane in each direction, as crews perform work on the bridge over the CSX railroad and the Little Calumet River. The north- and southbound bridges will have bridge deck overlays applied in order to extend their service life, along with other bridge maintenance tasks.

Lane closures will alternate so drivers should be prepared for changing traffic patterns.

The project is expected to be completed early in November.

INDOT urges motorists to stay alert in work zones and follow traffic directions carefully. Motorists should allow extra time when driving through this area, slow down, use caution, and drive distraction-free.
