A staff member at
Liberty Intermediate School tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday
morning, the Duneland School Corporation (DSC) reported after deadline on
in consultation with the Porter County Health Department, has conducted
contact tracing measures for this person, and all those who were in close
contact (within six feet for 15 minutes or longer) have been notified
directly, DSC said.
“Please be aware
that privacy laws, including HIPAA and FERPA, prevent us from sharing
further information regarding students and staff,” DSC added.
The LIS building
was deep-cleaned and sanitized Thursday evening and was available for
students today, DSC said.
According to the
Chesterton Tribune’s records, 11 DSC students or staffers have tested
positive for COVID-19 since classes began:
-- Sept. 3: one
Liberty Elementary student.
-- Sept. 11: one
Chesterton High School student; and two Bailly Elementary students.
-- Sept. 14: one
-- Sept. 15: one
Liberty Intermediate staffer.
-- Sept. 16: two
CHS students; and one LIS staffer.
-- Sept. 17: one
Yost Elementary staffer; and one LIS staffer.
Seven students and
staffers tested positive this week alone.
