will provide two events to help get into the holiday spirit. First, join
Porter Fire Department and Auxiliary from noon to 4:00 p.m., at 550 W. Beam
Street in Porter, for the fourth annual Open House.
This fun-filled,
free family event will feature a Firefighter Meet & Greet, crafts for kids
and an indoor bounce house. Fire trucks, rescue boats and other apparatus
will be on display. Try on firefighter gear.
Harley, the Fire
Rescue K9 will welcome guests. Santa will be making an early visit, so bring
along a camera.
Please consider
those less fortunate this Christmas season and bring a new, unwrapped toy
for the Toys for Tots collection.
Non-perishable food
items for local families will also be collected. For additional information

Then, from
4:30-6:30 p.m. join Bud’s Buddies at the Hageman Library, 100 Francis
Street, Porter, for Porter Lights of Love Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.
This free, family-friendly tree lighting ceremony will fill children of all
ages with excitement and wonder.
Guests will then
gather inside the library for a brief recognition ceremony. Names of all
honorees will be read aloud. Immediately following the recognition ceremony,
Duneland’s own ‘Banjo Bob’ will lead a sing-a-long of holiday favorites.
Refreshments will be served.
Please join in at
the corner of Francis and Franklin Streets is illuminated with a holiday
glow.
A very special
thank you to Westchester Public Library for the use of the lovely evergreen
tree and for hosting the celebration at Hageman Library.
Lights may still be
purchased in remembrance of, or to celebrate, someone special, or to honor a
member of our military serving far from home this Christmas season.
If ordered by 5:00
p.m. Thursday, December 1, your honorees name can still be included in the
commemorative Lights of Love program.
