Health Department adds info on C19 cases in nursing homes

In its daily COVID-19 update released this morning, the Porter County Health Department has added a new category of information: total C-19 cases, deaths, and recoveries in long-term care facilities.

Of the 24 Porter County residents who have died of COVID-19, 15 or 63 percent were residents of long-term care facilities.

Of the 523 COVID-19 cases to date in the county, 91 or 17 percent have been reported in those facilities.

Of the 338 recoveries so far reported, however, only two or 0.6 percent were residents of long-term care facilities.

Meanwhile, the Health Department was reporting this morning nine new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours (nine new cases on Thursday), to bring the total to 523, an increase of 1.8 percent.

Fourteen patients are currently hospitalized, unchanged from Thursday; while 338 have recovered, also unchanged from Thursday.

No additional deaths from COVID-19 were reported today.

To date 24 Porter County residents have died from COVID-19: four Westchester Township residents; one Liberty Township resident; 12 Portage Township residents; and seven Center Township residents. Deaths by age group: six 50-59; one 60-69; four 70-79; eight 80-89; and five 90-and-over. Twelve men have died and 12 women.

Total active cases in Porter County, after subtracting recoveries and deaths: 161, compared to 152 on Thursday.

Total COVID-19 tests conducted in Porter County as of Thursday, according to the Indiana State Department of Health: 4,394, up from 4,293 on Thursday, an increase of 2.4 percent over the previous 24 hours.

Duneland cases by township:

-- Westchester: 35 cases, four deaths, no hospitalizations, 27 recoveries (unchanged from Thursday). Four active cases.

-- Liberty: 25 cases (24 on Thursday), one death, two hospitalizations (two), 17 recoveries (17). Seven active cases.

-- Jackson: two cases, no hospitalizations, one recovery (unchanged from Thursday). One active case.

-- Pine: three cases, three recoveries.

Other hard hit townships:

-- Portage Township: 211 cases (207 on Thursday), 12 deaths (12), three hospitalizations (three), and 134 recoveries (134).

-- Center: 137 cases (136 on Thursday), seven deaths (seven), eight hospitalizations (eight), and 64 recoveries (64).

-- Washington: 49 cases, no hospitalizations, and 47 recoveries. These 49 cases include 40 confirmed at the Porter County Jail.

-- Union: 22 cases (21 on Thursday), one hospitalization and 18 recoveries (18).
