Westchester Public Libraryís free concert and family film series will
continue on Friday, August 2, at the Bandstand in Thomas Park with the band,
For Amusement Only, performing an eclectic mix of popular music.
The concert will be followed by the film Escape from Planet Earth at
dusk, about 8 p.m. Those who attend are invited to bring lawn chairs and
picnics, blankets, and bug spray.
In the event of rain, both events will be offered in the Library Service
Center on the corner of Indiana Ave. and Calumet. Popcorn and soda will be
sold in time for the movie by members of the Chesterton-Porter Rotary.
For Amusement Only offers a fun and danceable mix of oldies, country, pop
and rock. Members of the band are Tessy Bowers on vocals and guitar, Bill
McCarel, vocals, guitar and keyboard, Meg McCarel, vocals, Jim Murray,
drums, and Tim Winey, bass.
In Escape from Planet Earth, Scorch Supernova is a national hero to
the blue population on the planet Baab. Scorch pulls off astonishing feats
of rescue with aid of his nerdy, by-the-book brother, Gary, head of mission
control at BASA. When BASA chief Lena informs the brothers of an SOS from a
very dangerous planet, Scorch rejects his brotherís warnings and head out to
yet another exciting mission. But Scorch finds himself caught in a fiendish
trap set by the evil Shanker, itís up to Gary to do the real rescuing. As
the interplanetary stakes rise to new heights, Gary is left to save his
brother, his planet, his beloved wife Kira, and their adventure-hungry son
Escape from Planet Earth is rated PG. Running time is 89 minutes.
This series of concerts and films is partially funded through generous
donations from the Chesterton-Porter Rotary. The final concert will be Brass
Band Music with members of the South Shore Brass Band, followed by the film
Puss in Boots, rated PG.
