County reports 13th C19 death, uptick in new cases

The Porter County Health Department was reporting this morning another death from COVID-19 as well as 25 additional confirmed cases.

The death is the 13th in the county to date. The victim was a Westchester Township resident aged 70-79. This death marks the fifth Dunelander to die of COVID-19. Three other Westchester Township residents have died: two 80-89, and one 70-79. And a Liberty Township resident 80-89 has died as well.

Portage Township has seen seven of its residents die from COVID-19: three 50-59, one 70-79; one 80-89; and two 90-and-over.

One victim was a Center Township resident 70-79.

Eight of the victims were men. Five were women. Deaths by demographic: four in the 50-59; three in the 70-79; four in the 80-89; and two in the 90-and-over.

The Health Department was also reporting this morning 25 new cases of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, to bring the total in the county to 367, up from 342 on Monday.

Those 25 new cases represent a 7.3 percent increase over the last 24 hours.

Seventeen patients are currently hospitalized, unchanged from Monday; while 221 have recovered, up from 196 on Monday, an increase of 12.8 percent.

Total active cases in Porter County, after subtracting recoveries and deaths: 133, compared to 134 on Monday.

Total COVID-19 tests conducted in Porter County as of Monday, according to the Indiana State Department of Health: 2,487, up from 2,204 on Friday, an increase of 13 percent over the last 72 hours.

Duneland cases by township:

-- Westchester: 29 cases (29 cases on Monday), four deaths (three), one hospitalization (two), 17 recoveries (16). Eight active cases.

-- Liberty: 17 cases (16 on Monday), one death (one), no hospitalizations (none), 11 recoveries (nine). Five active cases.

-- Jackson: one case, one recovery.

-- Pine: three cases, no hospitalizations, one recovery (unchanged from Monday).

Other hard hit townships:

-- Portage Township: 162 cases (148), seven deaths (seven), seven hospitalizations (six), and 89 recoveries (81).

-- Center: 66 cases (60 on Monday), one death (one), seven hospitalizations (seven), and 33 recoveries (30).

-- Washington: 45 cases (45 on Monday), no hospitalizations (one), and 35 recoveries (33). These 45 cases include the 40 patients at Porter County Jail.

-- Union: 18 cases (16 on Monday), two hospitalization (one), and 14 recoveries (11)
