County groups collecting for Haiti earthquake relief

The Porter County Community Foundation along with its many nonprofit partners wants to reach out to those suffering in Haiti as a result of the devastating earthquake.

“While we have wonderful nonprofits working each and every day to serve those in need in our community, we cannot ignore the needs of others,” said Barbara Young, president of the Porter County Community Foundation, in a statement released today.

Individuals in a position to contribute are asked to consider making a gift to support the disaster relief effort by contacting any of the following organizations.

United Way

Checks can be sent to United Way of Porter County, P.O. Box 2028, Valparaiso, IN 46384 or to United Way Worldwide, P.O. Box 630568, Baltimore, MD 21263-0568 (note “Haiti Earthquake Fund” on memo line or in correspondence).

American Red Cross

Checks can be sent to Porter County American Red Cross, 755 W. Lincolnway, Valparaiso, IN 46385 or to American Red Cross P.O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C. 20013.

Donations to the International Response Fund can be made by phone at 1-800-REDCROSS or online at www.redcross.org

Salvation Army

Checks can be sent to the Salvation Army of Porter County, P. O. Box 828, Portage, IN 46368.

Donations can be made online at www.salvationarmyusa.org
