CMS student tests positive for C19

A Chesterton Middle School student in the hybrid A-K cohort tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday afternoon, the Duneland School Corporation (DSC) is reporting.

The administration, in consultation with the Porter County Health Department, has conducted contact tracing measures for this person. “Two individuals have been identified as close contacts and will be quarantined for 14 days,” DSC said in a statement released after deadline on Wednesday.

“Please be aware that privacy laws, including HIPAA and FERPA, prevent us from sharing further information regarding students and staff,” DSC added.

The CMS building was deep-cleaned and sanitized Wednesday evening and was available  for students today, DSC said.

According to the Chesterton Tribune’s records, 13 DSC students or staffers have tested positive for COVID-19 since classes began:

-- Sept. 3: one Liberty Elementary student.

-- Sept. 11: one Chesterton High School student; and two Bailly Elementary students.

-- Sept. 14: one CHS student.

-- Sept. 15: one Liberty Intermediate staffer.

-- Sept. 16: two CHS students; and one LIS staffer.

-- Sept. 17: one Yost Elementary staffer; and one LIS staffer.

-- Sept. 18: one WIS student.

-- Sept. 23: one CMS student.
